Frequently asked questions

What are GiveCard's payment options?

We offer the ability to issue reloadable physical and virtual VISA prepaid debit cards, as well as bank transfers. GiveCard offers instant bank transfers through RTP and FedNow rails, as well as standard ACH transfers.

How does someone receive and use their card?

Physical cards ship in bulk to a location for in-person pickup or directly to each recipient's mailing address. Virtual cards arrive instantly in the recipient's email inbox and can be added to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet for tap-to-pay right away.

Can we restrict what the card can be used for?

Yes. GiveCard's Spend Rules work at three layers: merchant category code (MCC), specific merchant ID or merchant name, and item-level control that can allow or block specific items within a single purchase.

Can we pull money back off a card if a program changes or there is a mistake?

Yes. Funds can be pulled back from cards into your funding account instantly, at any time.

Can we track which card belongs to which program, grant, or person?

Yes. Program names, recipient IDs, grant codes, or any other identifiers can be attached to cards and to transaction events through GiveCard's custom fields.

What reporting data do we get?

Real-time spend transaction data plus payment records for finance and accounting to book as journal entries. Data syncs automatically to integrated systems such as QuickBooks, or exports to CSV on demand.

Can GiveCard integrate with Salesforce, QuickBooks, or NetSuite?

Yes. GiveCard integrates with Salesforce, QuickBooks, NetSuite, and most other tracking software so organizations can sync payment and spending data into their own systems.

Does GiveCard offer an API?

Yes. GiveCard offers an API suite for teams that want to build disbursement capabilities directly into their own product or service. Documentation is at givecard.readme.io.

How long does it take to get up and running?

Two to five days for the no-code portal, and one to two weeks for a full API integration.

Can we set up recurring or scheduled payments instead of one-off loads?

Yes. Loads can be one-time, scheduled for a future date, or recurring.

How much does GiveCard cost?

A flat monthly software fee, set by the annual dollar volume of disbursements, plus fulfillment costs: $5 per physical card, $0 per virtual card, and about $0.75 per bank transfer. No inactivity fees, no cardholder penalties, no per-transaction costs.

Are there hidden fees?

No. Pricing is up front, and recipients receive 100 percent of the money you send them.

What happens if there is fraud or a disputed charge?

GiveCard runs 24/7 fraud monitoring and handles disputes end to end.

What information do you need about the people we are paying?

GiveCard does not collect personally identifiable information from recipients. It needs an email address to deliver a virtual card, a mailing address to deliver a physical card, or bank details collected and verified through GiveCard Intake for a bank transfer.

Do you handle 1099s?

Yes, we provide a 1099 Tax Compliance Suite that automates the W-9 collection, 1099 creation, and e-filing of those records.

Do you offer support to recipients and cardholders?

Yes. GiveCard's in-house team handles all cardholder-facing support directly: lost or stolen cards, unrecognized transactions, fraud, and disputes. Support is available by phone hotline and email, seven days a week, with live support 9am to 6pm Eastern and 24/7 automated phone service for balance checks and PIN setup.

Do you support languages other than English?

Recipient-facing materials are human-translated into 16+ languages. Our live support utilizes live translation services that provide coverage over most languages.

How can a government agency procure GiveCard?

GiveCard is available through cooperative purchasing vehicles many agencies already hold, including NASPO ValuePoint and Carahsoft. Contact contact@givecard.io to learn how your agency can use GiveCard.

Who issues the cards, and are funds FDIC insured?

Cards are issued by Sutton Bank, Member FDIC, and funds are FDIC insured up to the standard limit.

Can recipients without a bank account use a GiveCard?

Yes, a recipient does not need to have a bank account to be able to receive and use a GiveCard.

How fast do recipients get paid?

Recipients can get access to funds within seconds.

How long does it take to get started, or switch from our current provider?

GiveCard can launch in as soon as a week, up to two weeks to switch from another provider.

How is GiveCard different from gift cards or rewards platforms?

GiveCards are more flexible and configurable than gift cards or rewards platforms. GiveCards are VISA cards that work anywhere, and can be reloaded remotely on-demand. They can similarly be restricted down to only work in certain categories (e.g., grocery or gas stations), or even created to be a gift card-like experience to a specific store if desired.

Can we offer cards inside our own product?

Yes, GiveCard offers an API suite that allows you to surface cards in iframes within your own product.

Who uses GiveCard?

GiveCard works with nonprofits, state and county agencies, as well as for-profit companies in the US, that range widely in size, complexity, and technical capability.

Where do GiveCards work?

GiveCard is a VISA-issued prepaid debit card, so it works anywhere in the US that takes Visa debit.

Does GiveCard offer any custom branding?

Yes, GiveCard allows customization and custom branding options for certain features on cards, recipient communications, and recipient facing portals.
